It is native to North and South Carolina and has inspired generations with its menacing looking teeth and horrific means of eating insects.Unlike most other carnivorous plants that have passive traps, the venus fly trap has a unique ability to dramatically move to catch prey. There are tiny hairs that act as trigger that when touched, build an electric charge. When two touches are made, the charge is strong enough to rapidly shut the trap.Your new plant will fit comfortably in a 2.5" pot. It is of mature, flowering size and has been carefully grown for the last three years. It is now a good size for carnivorous plant enthusiasts to grow another year or two into specimen size.
