Nepeta cataria comes from the Lamiaceae or Labiatae family. It is commonly known as Catnip or Catmint and is a perennial growing to 3ft by 2ft. This plant is native in Europe, including Britain, from Scandinavia south and east to Spain, and also W. and C. Asia to the Himalayas. It is in flower from July to November, and the seeds ripen from September to October. This plant is pollinated by bees and is known for attracting wildlife. It cannot grow in the shade, and It prefers dry or moist soil.  Zones 3-7. Germination Sow seeds the thickness of the seeds on top of the medium and lightly cover. Keep moist in a bright spot. Do not cover and keep temperatures around 65-70F. Germination is in 21-30 days.
