Black Bamboo Rhizomes (3-Pack) - Phyllostachys Nigra: You will receive three (3) Black Bamboo rhizomes with healthy and vigorous roots like the ones seen in the pictures. They will be freshly dug on receiving your order. Appearance: Black bamboo features ebony-colored stalks (culms) that transition from green to black during the second or third year of growth. The long, lance-shaped leaves are bright green, creating a beautiful contrast against the dark culms. Size: It can grow up to 30 feet tall, with each culm reaching up to 2 inches thick. Hardiness: Black bamboo is hardier than most other bamboo species and can thrive in colder climates down to 5 degrees (zones 7 to 10). Fast growing: This variety quickly reaches impressive heights, forming dense foliage within a short time. The photo that shows a section of green foliage is growth after just two and a half years. Perfect for a hedge or privacy screen. It’s a slow running bamboo that forms clumps. Container Option: Ideal for containers or root barriers to control growth. Planting Tips: Location and Sun: It will do well if planted in a sunny spot outdoors, partial shade is good as well, however, it may grow faster in full sun. Soil and Water: Use well-draining soil and keep it consistently moist. It’s important to not let the soil dry out, especially in the first year of growth. Growth Process: After transplanting the rhizomes will spend their first year establishing healthy roots systems. New shoots emerge in spring. Mulching around the planting area will help the roots to spread and keep the soil from drying out. On receiving your order, rhizomes will be carefully packaged for moisture retention to keep healthy roots during shipment. Please allow up to 3 days to package and ship your order. Please inspect your order on arrival to make sure there is no damage due to shipping. It’s important to plant as soon as possible after receiving and to keep the rhizomes moist, but not waterlogged. Should there be any issues due to shipping please contact me as soon as possible.
