After a long search, I came across a small shop in Agios Nikolaos on Crete while looking for high-quality, tasty and gently processed spices and teas. The store called “Elixir Herbs & Spices” only has approx. 20 m² and is located in the heart of the small town not far from a small fishing port. The special thing about this shop is that it doesn't sell the normal tourist spice mixes, but the owner Alexi makes his own spices, spice mixes and teas. Most of the ingredients grow in the region of Agios Nikolaos and the mountainous areas towards Sitia in the east of the island. Here you can still taste the pure and natural nature, as the plants are not grown commercially, but can grow and thrive in the wild. Mix some rosemary with mustard and olive oil to form a paste and brush it on lamb meat,.
