Mammillaria backebergiana subsp. ernestii is a subspecies dwarf cactus in the Cactaceae family. Its native range is Mexico. It grows at elevations of around 6,000 - 6,500 feet. It forms elongated stems, usually in clusters. The spines are white to red, and many for protection. It creates slender to broad rings of flowers below the top of the stems that are bright pink with yellow centers. An easy one to grow and is adaptable to a wide range of conditions. It can grow in a window with direct sun or outside with filtered light where temperatures do not drop below 25F. It prefers regular garden soil and, during the growing season, use a fertilizer rich in potassium and phosphorus but poor in nitrogen. Zones 9-11 Germination Seeds must be placed on top of a sandy and humid soil at about 67-80F. Maintain slightly moist soil and cover with glass until germination. Germination 8-13 days
