Phaseolus vulgaris Min Qty/packet; 60 seeds Common in Mexican dishes, including refried beans, and one of the most popular beans around. High in protein, harvest when pods are dry or enjoy them early while they're still green and young as a snap bean. Drought tolerant, plants grow to around 20" high. 90-95 days. Plant seeds 1" deep 2-3" apart in well-drained soil after the danger of frost has passed and the soil has warmed. Plant in a sunny location in rows 18-36" apart. Thin seedlings to 4-6". Do not overwater. Let beans fully dry for harvest. If a frost is expected, pull up the whole plant, roots and all, and hang it upside down to allow the drying process to continue. They're good and dry when the beans rattle inside the pods. Do not plant beans in the same spot more than once every 4 years. Does well interplanted with corn, cucumber, squash, pumpkin, but avoid interplanting with onions or fennel.
